The Independence Angel is one of the  most important Mexican symbols, is the main historic monument for the Mexican people (also considered the symbol of Mexico City). It is located in downtown Mexico City in the middle of one of the most beautiful and transited avenues called Paseo de la Reforma.

The column measures 108 feet and the angel an additional 20 feet. The angel is built of bronze dipped in gold. Around the central base are four statues representing law, justice, war and peace.

Antonio Rivas Mercado built the Independence’s Monument in the first years of the past century, when Porfirio Diaz was President of Mexico. The monument was built to commemorate 100 years of the Independence of Mexico. Since September 16 th of 1925 this monument was placed on the tomb of several Mexican Independence hero’s like Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon, Ignacio Allende, Vicente Guerrero, Andres Quintana Roo, at back.
