Most banknotes have an issue year on the front, sometimes they include the month and day and very few include state or city. The date is important because there are some banknotes from a particular period like revolutionary issues in Mexico years 1910-1917.

Some collectors appreciate banknotes from year 2000

The banknote below was issued in Argentina, January 2nd, 1869

The issuing authority is the agency responsible for issuing currency in that country. There may have been many more than one issuing authority within the same country especially in hard times like revolutions, war, independence’s movements, etc.

Most banknotes show the issuing authority on the front, sometimes they include the month and day and very few include state or city.

The banknote below was issued for “El Banco de Londres y Mexico”. For instance in Mexico, in the early 1900 almost every state issued banknotes, so we had banknotes from Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Sonora, etc.

Issue date: October 1st, 1913

Francisco Ignacio Madero González was the 33rd President of México from 1911 to 1913. He was born in Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila in October 30, 1873 and he died executed by the Porfirista military and his traitorous aides, which he neglected to replace with revolutionary supporters in February 22, 1913.

Madero was a respectable upper-class politician, he supplied a center around which opposition to the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz could coalesce. His assassination was followed by the most violent period of the revolution in Mexico (1913–1917) until the Constitution of 1917 and revolutionary president Venustiano Carranza achieved some degree of stability. Followers of Madero were known as Maderistas.

José María Pino Suárez was born on 8 September 1869 in Tenosique, Tabasco and died on February 22, 1913 assassinated before the Palace of Lecumberri, while supposedly attempting to escape. It was later proved this was false, the assassination had been planned and set up long before its occurrence.

Pino Suárez was a Mexican statesman, revolutionary, poet, journalist and jurist who served as Vice President of Mexico (1911–1913), Secreatry of Education and Governor of Yucatán. He was a key player of the Mexican Revolution, and is especially well known (his poecy and life work apart) for his patriotic role during La decena tragica, where along with President Madero he forfeited his life in the pursuit of democracy for his country.

Signatures represent the approval from the issuing authority. Long ago, most banknotes were printed but did not become legal tender until each one was signed individually by the authorized signatories. Usually at least one of the signatures is the Treasurer of the issuing authority.

Some notes get more valuable for collectors because of the person who signed them. The note below was signed for Ernesto “Che Guevara” in Cuba. El “che” is a symbol of revolutionary mind. With his slogan, “Cuba, free territory of America, country or dead” he became a great leader.

Ignacio Allende was born on January 21, 1779 in San Miguel el Grande in Guanajuato. He was executed by firing squad on June 26, 1811 in Chihuahua.

Allende was a captain of the Spanish Army in Mexico who came to sympathize with the Mexican independence movement. He attended the secret meetings organized by Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, where the possibility of an independent New Spain was discussed. He fought along with Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in the first stage of the struggle, eventually succeeding him in leadership of the rebellion.

Allende is a national hero of Mexico. Places named in his honor include the municipality of Allende and town of San Miguel de Allende in the state of Guanajuato, and the Chihuahua municipality of Allende and its municipal seat, Valle de Allende.
