A watermark is put onto a banknote’s paper prior to the printing process as a security device. Watermarks look as a blank spot on a bill. You can see a watermark holding up the banknote to the light.

The note below has the Tutankhamen’s mask as a watermark at right.

Numismatics – Begginers Guide

Numismatics is the study or collection of paper money, coins, and often medals.

Banknote is a piece of paper issued by a bank representing its promise to pay a specific sum to the bearer on demand and acceptable as money.

Note is a piece of paper currency.

Paper money is currency printed on paper. Includes all the various materials that have served as paper surrogates, for instance the polymer notes.

Thirteen important points that make a bill valuable and worth collect.

The presentation below is a simple guide for people who wants to start a paper money collection.

Digital Banknote Heaven is a unique CD with a Banknotes Photographic Collection of more than 3550 pictures of banknotes from 172 countries. They are organized in folders alphabetically from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. Almost all the banknotes were scanned front and back and they have the pick number from the Krause catalog as the file name. The images are sized between 300 and 400 pixels wide, with 72 resolution. Some are jpg and some are gif.

It took me 2 years to get this collection together. I scanned, sized and saved copies of every single banknote taken from the originals.

This CD will make a great and unique gift for collectors, dealers, artists, children and anybody who loves history, animals, landscapes, etc.
